The Story

Where It All Began.

Darrell Thompson grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Like most people from working class communities, he was surrounded by hard work, family loyalty, and a deep sense of determination. What he was not surrounded by was financial education. Nobody in his world was talking about wealth building, investment strategy, or the mindset required to build something that lasts. The focus was on survival. On getting by. On doing what you had to do.

As a young adult Darrell found himself financially struggling despite his drive and his work ethic. The money came in and it went out and there was never enough of it doing what it was supposed to do. He was working hard and getting nowhere financially, and he could not understand why.

Then he made a decision that changed everything. He joined the United States Marine Corps.

The Corps gave him discipline, structure, and a mission-driven mindset that he carries to this day. But even inside one of the most elite institutions in the world, Darrell found himself still struggling financially. It was not a work ethic problem. It was a knowledge problem. And nobody around him seemed to be talking about it.

The Turning Point

One Course Changed Everything.

During his time in the Marine Corps, Darrell attended a Financial Specialist course. What he learned in that room did not just teach him about money. It completely rewired how he thought about it.

The course was not complicated. That was the part that hit hardest. The information was straightforward, practical, and immediately applicable. And nobody had ever given it to him before. Not in school. Not at home. Not anywhere. The way wealth is actually built. The way money actually moves. The mindset required to make any of it stick long term.

From that moment Darrell became a student of financial literacy and mindset. He studied everything he could get his hands on. He began applying what he learned to his own life and his own finances. And then he began helping others do the same, because he understood that he was not the only one who had been left without the financial foundation they deserved.

That drive to share what he had learned never left him. It became his mission. It became Right Side of Money.

THE BEGINNING

Grew up in a hardworking community where financial education was never part of the conversation. Learned early what it meant to grind, but not yet what it meant to build.

United States Marine Corps

Joined the Marines and gained the discipline, leadership, and mission-driven mindset that defines everything he does today. Still struggled financially despite the structure.

THE SHIFT

Financial Specialist Course

Attended a Financial Specialist course in the Corps that rewired everything. Became a student of financial literacy and mindset. Started helping others immediately.

THE BUILD

Licenses, Real Estate, Teaching

Earned his California real estate license, built a rental portfolio as a landlord, became a licensed insurance producer, and joined academia as a College Adjunct Professor.
